Graduation: Take 2!
Greetings!
Today I travelled to UNSW for the graduation of my brother. And gosh we nearly missed it by a couple of minutes - go family time management. The graduation started at 2:30 and you're supposed to be seated by 2:15, although admittedly there's a lot of speeches and boring spongy stuff before the actual award presentations.
Anyway, we left the house at 2:00... and had half an hour to get from Epping area to Randwick - go figure. Arrived on campus at 2:45, quick check of map and we learn that the lecture theatre is on the other side of the campus - *groans*.
UNSW campus is quite large and it takes a good 15 minutes to walk at a leisurely pace from one side to another (my mum was wearing heels so I didn't want to kill her before we reached the graduation)
We inconspicously snuck at the back of the lecture theatre and as luck would have it, my brother's name was only a couple of names away! Oh p.s. he's graduation from BIndDes
Same deal as last time *name gets called out - clap clap clap* and repeat x 100. The lecture theatre was in a terrible state! There were bits of flaky ceiling dangling and holes in the roof that allowed you to see the sky. Not what I would expect at a graduation of a uni like UNSW - Macquarie or UWS maybe :P but not UNSW.
HAHAH! And then the Sydney mayor - Clover Moore came to speak to us. For those who don't know she's quite a prominent and popular politcian. She's also a lesbian. Now, one time I remember on the Kyle and Jackie O, they ended talking about how she's a big supporter of the Mardi Gras and Kyle goes
"Her politcal catch line should be 'Clover Moore - she's our whore!"

And so when she came to speak today, I cracked up in my little and corner and garnered quite a few raised eyebrows. Funnies funnies
After the obligatory photo spam post-ceremony, we all headed off for the REFRESHMENTS which were "Banana cake (good), brownie (ok) and poppyseed (good)"
There was also OJ and sparkling water. OH MY GOSH! I HAVE TO TELL YOU ALL A STORY ABOUT SPARKLING WATER!
-----
ERGHHHHH! I absolutely detest that stuff, I seriously cannot bear the taste to the point where I'll gag it all out. Ok, before I went to Europe I had NEVER heard of this "sparkling water" but I quickly learned that sparkling water is very popular in europe. e.g. When you ask for water, most of the times they'd automatically get you sparkling water.
So here I was in Poland in a Polish supermarkt trying to read the Polish on Polish bottles of water. There were two types of bottles of water, one with a pink cap and one with a blue cap. So I thought "AHA! One must be the "normal or still water" and the other the yuckky "sparkling water"."
And after spending quite a long time squnting at the Polish which looks something like this "W związku z artykułem dotyczącym PLL LOT, zamieszczonym na portalu www.onet.pl, poniżej zamieszczamy sprostowanie Urzędu Lotnictwa Cywilnego odnoszącego się do tego artykułu."
Yeh... I CAME UP WITH THE BRILLIANT IDEA OF SHAKING THE BOTTLES TO CHECK OUT WHICH ONE WAS GASSY AND WHICH ONE WASN'T! I WAS SO PROUD!!
So I shook both and chose the one that seemed less gassy, I was so proud of my genius. On the train that night I poured myself a cup of water, drank and spluttered it all out onto the wall. I had failed -_-
----
Whoops, I kind of completely lost my train of thought there. Heh.
Went to dinner Eastwood ate juicy SHANGHAINESE BUNS! (which Mawby's future shang wife will make everyday)
And that was it.
I SHALL CONCLUDE TODAY WITH A VIDEO OF SHARON FROM TEPPANYAKI!
GOODBYE AND COMMENT BITCHES!
PS. I'm thinking of doing a weekly travel blog section where I talk about my travellings around the globe. What do you people think? Is it too vain, too self-centred, too Boscoesque?

GERMAN!
GUTEN TAG ALLE!
This is going to be a quick update because I have a term's worth of German Extension to fasttrack in a week before my test "T_T" (using Quentin's thing). The story I'm studying at the moment is called "Risiko für Weihnachtsmänner - Risks for Santa" and it is seriously a whacked up story.
Synopsis:
This guy wants to make a quick buck so he signs up to this dodgy Santa agency in a pub which has cold rissoles with gray onion ring sauce. Anyway the organiser called Mulka pretends he's a general organising his soldiers and systematically organises the joy-bringing.
Fast track ------> The guy gets dressed and arrives at his destination. Knocks on the door some thin old scary lady pulls him in and usheres him to hurry up and deliver the presents. They're waiting? But *gasp* WHO?!!!??!
Walks in but sees no children! All he sees is the old man dressed in a black suit *cue raised eyebrows*. Then the woman (the wife of this old man) makes this sign to WHIP THE OLD MAN!
The Santa, now is seriously WTF-ed but this woman keeps frantically gesturing him TO WHIP THE OLD MAN WHIP HIM WHIP HIM!!!!
O_O O_O O_O! Kinky much?
And then the poor Santa finally whips him and the old man goes " THANK YOU YOU HAVE DONE IT! I DIDN'T THINK YOU'D COME THROUGH!"
WTF?!
Then there's this convoluted subplot about how the old man used to be general and once he was bored and radioed HQ to send a Santa but on the way the Santa got shot and ever since the old man has felt guilty.
So this new Santa, who's just trying to make a quick $$$, is suppsoed to be a substitute and reconcile this old man's sin.
BUT what's with the kinky whipping?
ENTER GERMAN CULTURE LESSON!
In some regions of Germany, there is a character called "Knecht Ruprecht" or "Krampus" who accompanies Nikolaus (St. Nicholas) on the 6th of December. He is clothed in rags and carries a birch. He will punish the children who were bad and will give them a birch as a present. He is usually the one who scares the little children. In other parts of Germany, St. Nicholas is followed by a small person called "Schwarz Peter" (Black Peter) who carrys a small whip. Black Peter also accompanies St. Nicholas or Sinterklass in Holland.
Still pretty whacked up if you ask me but whatever.
------------------------------
Hehe, one of our writing tasks was to write a recount of your experience at a recent concert. So I decided to write about THE WONDER GIRLS! WOOT WOOT! I wrote "Yeah I totally love them and I've waited so long for this concert so I waited outside the concert hall gates for ages. When the doors were finally opened there were deafening screams! I knocked out two fat chicks who were in my way cause I wanted to get good seats."
Fun fun fun!
Anyway I shall leave you with this

Teppanyaki and rape mugs
Friday 1/5/09
I know many of you have been waiting for an update for 2 weeks now and voila here it is! Ok today we went out to Showchef Teppanyaki in Darlinghurst with about 15-16 other people. I missed my bus and hence the train everyone went on so == for me.
Met up at GreaterUnion and then we walked to Darlinghurst to catch a bus. Catch was the trip was literally 400m - one stop. It took twice as long to get 16 kids on board a bus than the actual trip length but whatevs because I saved 14cents, that's right 14cents with my TravelTen - hehehe.
Rawr. First impressions of restaurant were "interesting". Ok so it look seriously run down, cramped, small and quite dodgy. We had 16 people but only 12 could fit around the hotplate so they just tacked a table on to a corner, hmm....
AND SO THE FUN BEGAN!
We had salad, miso soup, fish filets, squid, teriyaki chicken, prawns (and their legs?!) egg and fried rice.
The chef was AMAZINGLY talented at deveinimg the prawns with just a prong and a knife - man I end up picking the shit (haha get it?) out of my prawns when I try to devein them.
Needless to say we were AMAZED at his culinary skills and jokes. We had to catch raw eggs in bowls and SHARON, who was seated furthest from the plate dropped hers and we all laughed - hehe. I filmed it too. He tricked Michael by adding spin to his egg and it ended up landing into Michael's bowl but spun right out onto Jackie's plate, much to her horror!
Then we had to catch bits of fried egg with our mouths and I (surprisingly) caught mine *proud*. Unfortunately someone else (S-Y) missed x3!
Karma bit me back though :(. Everyone took turns in catching bowls of fried rice with another bowl and the chef chucked Ben's rice at him without a bowl but he still caught it! I kind of...missed and it asploded everywhere :( Serves me right aye?
The chef hit on Winnie
"How much you love me? How much you love me?"
*Winnie blushes, forcefully smiles and demonstrates*
"This much..."
"Ahh! How much you pay for me then? $5?!"
*awkward turtle*
It was a GOOD FIRST TIME AND A FUN EXPERIENCE! It was a bit pricy but I guess it's the novelty that counts! The one other thing that really bugged me was how salty everything was! After the meal I was gagging for more water to drown out all the evil msg particles

Graduation
Friday 17/4/09
After a long morning at Eddison's, I went to the hole known as Carlingford station to catch a train to Redfern for my cousin's graduation at USYD. It's always annoying having to change trains at Clyde but I guess I should be thankful that the trains even run on time.
My aunt insisted I dress nicely but when I was looking through my closet of hand-me-downs I soon realised nothing fit! I asked my brother if I could borrow a shirt but ALAS all his shirts were too big. Remember back in primary when we had to wear "paint shirts" for art and craft? I looked like that in his shirts. I ended up wearing my old work shirt, black pants + tie.
Arrived at Redfern --> short walk to USYD --> walk across campus to Great Hall. Bells were ringing, security was patrolling and there was a sea of black robes and caps with a river of colours from their assorted coloured stripes. (You get to wear a different colour stripe across your robe according to your degree http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_dress#Inter-Collegiate_colors)
Oh I should probably tell you a bit about my cousin. He's a bit annoying but a good guy... generally. He calls me LAMFACE and hates me for drooling over his cake at his birthday party when I was a baby. (Apparently as they were singing Happy Birthday to him, I leant over and drooled over his cake and made him quite unhappy. I can only imagine his horror - heh, it's on film somewhere).
He went to Trinity Grammar and is graduating from Bachelor of Science (Advanced) and is currently doing Medicine at Notre Dame at Broadway. Quite a smart cookie - congratulations to him for getting into Med straight after his first degree.
Back to the hall now if anyone's been to the Great Hall they'll know how small it is for a hall. It's width is comparable to the half the school hall and there's always a seating shortage. Argh! So I ended up standing for 2hrs and it was basically "[name]...clap clap clap...[name]...clap clap x50"
It was exactly like last time I was here (for my dad's Master) but I don't know why but being there made me feel good, even though I wasn't the one graduating. I think it was just the fact everyone in the hall was happy and shared a common bond for that 2hrs.
I was minding my own business, standing there and suddenly this bitch from behind goes
"You're not seriously gonna stand there are you?"
And of course I gave her a dirty and ignored her and continud to stand there. Screw her. What I really wanted to say was
"You know what I think I might, after that snide remark. Why don't you try suck up all that fatass and maybe you'll grow a few inches"
OK OK, that was just my imagination but yeh :P What was really striking about the procedure was this
"The graduates receiving B Science (Advanced) with first class honours second division...
The graduates receiving B Science (Advanced) with second class honours...
and then the guy went
"The graduates receiving B Science (Advanced) with *long pause* a pass"
Then some prof from the science faculty came and gave a speech about asexual reproduction in Komodo Dragons and Hammerhead Sharks and somehow that ended up relating about graduates being the future of the world. It was strange.
The academic party left and everyone partied - HARHAR.
Took some photos of my relatives before my cousin went off to take luvos with his graduate friends. Random fact did you know it costs $130 to buy the cap! The robe must be much more expensive because he only hired that. My aunt was bitching about where the heck my uncle was but gave up and we ended up getting refreshments.
A-HA! There he was stuffing his face already with 2 sandwiches in one hand and a drink in another. I cracked up, he was probably waiting the whole two hours for this moment. He ended up doing quite a few rounds around the table stuffing his face or as he was saying "I'm just taste testing so I can tell you what's good"
They ended up taking me out to dinner and I thoguht "Woow! Prett sweet deal, two hours of boringness = free meal" Not bad not bad!
And that was that.
Sunday 22/4/09
CHINESE SUPERSTITION!
Above our door we have this sign that says "Chut yup ping orn" which means "enter and exit in peace" It's a sign of good fortune and some shit like that...that's what I thought.
Halfway through dinner we heard this noise and it turned out the sign had fallen! Mum and I were like "OMG OMG! BAD LUCK WE'RE NOT GOING TO ENTER AND EXIT IN PEACE!! NOOOOO" I forgot about it cause I don't usually believe in these things and I forgot all about it until...
After dinner. I went to go upstairs and on the way you pass by the front door. I forgot all about the fallen sign, still on the ground, and slid on it and I came crashing down to the floor with a loud thud and groan.
Fucking superstitions.
Monday 20/4/09
I had to catch a bus today to tutoring cause I had a last minute time change. Now my bus stop is right after a traffic intersection. (Imagine a L and my bus stop is just to the right of the corner)
Red light at the intersection and yay I see my bus! But what's this?! It's on the outer lane and there's another bus next to it on the inner lane?!
Red-->Green-->both buses turn --> I try to flag down my bus on the outer lane and end up flagging down the inner bus --> #@$!$#@#@%R%#@! --> the bus I want overtakes the fake bus --> sigh
The end

The end

Easter Show
I've decided to flirt with this idea of blogging and see how it goes for a while. Hmm...
EASTER SHOW TODAY!
Aim: To survive on $30 (incl ticket)
Method: Catch bus and go to Easter Show
Yeah, ok I'll stop with the science write-up I was never any good at science anyway. Gosh the bus was unexpectedly packed (no sarcasm). Last time I went, which was probably 2-3 yrs ago I remember the buses having 2-3 people.
This time around we did more of the mature agriculture stuff and less (none) of the commercial crap after all the Sydney Royal Easter Show is an agricultural event - not a showbag one!
We started off by watching some cattle showing which reminded me of the good olde year 8 days. They were bad *shudders*, somehow I was supposed to lead a cow that was taller than me...
Then came the highlight of the day and what I look forward to every visit:
THE WOOLWORTHS FOOD PAVILLION!
(And I still remember when it used to be an indoor basketball arena for the Paralympics!)
This is my version of heaven, free food samples galore! First stop was honey tasting where we tasted 5 teaspoons of differnt types of honey (stringybark, ironbark, redgum etc.). There was a rather gross one that tasted like Mopiko (tiger balm).
Then we entered the "Woolworths Walk" which was bascially a whole row of FREE SAMPLE STANDS and I think I'll list out what I ended up eating

- Yoghurt x2 (Passionfruit + Mango - super creamy and nice)
- Pomegranate Juice
- Italian Sausage
- Seafood marinara spaghetti
- Nudie juice x2
- Woolies coleslaw
- Ham and pea soup
- Sweet potato and pumpkin soup
- Bred with garlic and basil spread
- Roasted turkey breast
KEEP IN MIND THIS IS ONLY THE WOOLIES SECTION!
(I ended up going through the street twice - heh.)
After that rather filling adventure we found some more goodies...
But it didn't stop there because then they made me sit through one of those live cooking demos which I absolutely abhor. I find them boring but turned out to be ok - something about talking a brand of oil. We ended up getting a FREEEE BOTTLE OF OIL EACH! WOOOOOOOOW! And then freaking hell, the cooking lady was giving away special prizes if you could answer the questions seeing ifyou listned.
And I was zoning out but she said something about the oil content being 80% and I thoguht to myself "THAT HAS TO BE A QUESTION SHE'S GOING TO ASK! No one just chucks in a random figure".
Low and behold she asked "So earlier I mentioned a certain figure..." and straight away I put up my hand BUT DID SHE FREAKING LOOK IN MY DIRECTION?! NO! NO NO! ARGH I was so grumpy I should have made a scene :P
After all the free food sampling it was time for the arts and craft section and me being the disgusting boy I am, instead of admiring all the pretty cakes I was counting all the maggots and flies that were now festering inside the displays. Hehe.
Showbag hall was boring. Grabbed pasta lunch. Gosh, the people serving me were so "unpolished"
"NEXT PULEEEEAZZZEEEE"
"EXSSSSCUSE MEEEE CAN I HELPZ YOUSSE?
"NEXT!"
And then right there Marie Bashir, the NSW Governor General passed by in this fancy horse drawn cart.
"DUDE CHECK THAT OUT. Whozzzat?"
"Oh my god, I think it's the queen!"
"No way!"
"Yeh, it has to be!"
We watched the Grand Parade of all the animals which was fun, visited the Dairy Farmers barn and then went home
EDIT: I forgot at the Woolworths Dome I saw these showbags and I went to get one and the guy goes "KIDS ONLY". I gave him a dirty.
And before they were handing out guides but the fat lady wouldn't give me one "SENIORS ONLY". I gave her a dirty too.
The end.
- Lime Cocktail (can't believe they gave us free alcohol)
- Vanilla Chai Latte
- Random biscuits
- Nuts and those olive oil dips with the bread
